What is The Humble Pie Tour?

The Humble Pie Tour started in spring of 2012 as an art collaboration and an RV road trip across North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. The RV became a mobile expanding mural as artists from each city painted its walls. Each artist used their own style and techniques to create the mural, cohesive because of its diversity. Art is undermined by the idea that it can be created only by trained artists and appreciated only in museums or galleries. “Art is not a spectator sport” became the mantra of Humble Pie.
thank you for your support!

“Art is not a spectator sport; get involved.”

Your contribution to the Humble Pie Tour will go toward paints, brushes, gas, camera equipment , flyers, posters, and fixer-ups on the rv.

Moving Forward

Moving forward, the Humble Pie Tour will resume in the spring of 2013. Although we have had over 60 artists add to the mural during the first tour, we know there are more out there! Our focus this year will be on North Carolina's emerging artists, schools, and arts-based festivals. Our aim with the project is simple; to open a collaborative mobile art canvas. We will organize several events for emerging artists and kids who are just getting into art to be able  to paint or draw on the same surface. Why? Because the arts are being cut in almost every school and community across the country. We feel like if young people do not have an outlet to express their feelings about the world around them, they tend to implode and explode from those emotions. This project is not designed to save the world, just to give a few artist an opportunity to tell their stories or express their views.

Back Story

About four years ago, I sat at my parents' kitchen table with an idea. I'm not sure exactly where the inspiration came from, but I was convinced that there was a way to share and collaborate with other artists from all over. The vision required that a canvas be made mobile, though at the time I was not sure what it would be or even why I felt so compelled to create this project. Because I believe that the best things are created by collaboration, I decided to set off from the mountains of NC with the RV. Inspired by the things we feed ourselves – creative foods – I used the name “Humble Pie” as the title of the tour. Now the tour continues with the same intention and a concrete mission statement – “Art is not a spectator sport; get involved.”

This is one you just have to watch! After 3 blown tires, the hot FL sun, empty bank account, and engine troubles, I was ready to turn around and mid point but inspiration came in the form of a humble cool breeze of a man named Chevey Ethridge.

Honestly I had never heard of a food truck cook off until this day. And what a cook off it was! All I knew was these people took their show on the road and through the Piscah Brewery we were connected to the Blind Pig. Great group with an awesome concept . Needless to say we had tons of fun that day!  Photography by: Mignon Petrini

HOME WITH GRANDMA

This moment was one of the highlights of my trip. Over the past 10 year my grandmother and I have grown apart. Maybe the distance, maybe family conflicts over the years. Whatever the reason we had not enjoyed an honest comvorsation with eachother in years until this day. Although it was not planned, it was perfect timing.

ATLANTA, GA

ATL was home for eight years and it still is responsible for allowing me the perspective I add to my art. I'm forever grateful for this place of growth and support.
