Creative call- ATLANTA TO STOCKHOLM

Creative Call: ATLxSTHLM is an intercultural grassroots initiative with the purpose of using art and creative culture to build socially sustainable and truly democratic societies. It´s a festival, a movement, and a growing trans-atlantic network of individuals, institutions and organizations who support Creative Call´s core ideas about art and culture as a tool for empowerment and social change. The home base in Stockholm lies in the suburban areas Tensta and Husby, and branches out to etablished inner city institutions Kulturhuset and Moderna Muséet. The purpose of Creative Call can be summarized into three main topics!
1. We want to inspire an art world and a creative culture that breaks down social, cultural and mental barriers instead of upholds them! Art and culture plays a major role in creating our view of reality, our images and ideas about other people and ourselves. When seen as accessible and relevant by people from all types of backgrounds, art and culture has the power to break down barriers, to give people the tools to write their own stories and define their own identities, and to imagine and present new alternatives to what is. We want to inspire an inclusive and diverse creative culture as a pillar stone in a socially sustainable and truly democratic society, where voices are heard on equal terms and art can be used as a tool for expanding ideas in terms of what is real, what is true, and what is possible.

2. We want to help create & cultivate the young creatives and artists of tomorrow! If creative industries are to grow and flourish in our globalized world, they need to promote non-traditional thinking, let in different perspectives, and highlight genre-crossing art forums and collaborations to stay fresh, creative and progressive. By bringing artists of various disciplines under the same umbrella and presenting a collaborative, community-based approach to art that questions current ideas and hierarchies in terms of who is an artist, what is art, and how is art produced, we wish to inspire a sustainable creative culture that embraces diversity of thought and expression and motivates the creatives and artists of tomorrow.
3. We want to lay the first building blocks towards a continously strong relationship between Sweden and the American South on the cultural and social arena! To progress as local communities, cities or countries in a world where social problems and structures have no national borders, it is important to create platforms that allow for local problems to be put in a global context, and new solutions to be brought to light. Through debates, lectures, and informal meetings, we wish to promote international dialogue between the American South and Sweden surrounding topics of art, culture, social struggles, and cultural stereotypes, and continue to build an international network of creatives as well as cultural and social activists who are interested in the progression of all art disciplines and continuing to build sustainable societies.
